Water Lily (Nymphaea)- Hardy or Tropical- most common water plant-tropicals can be used as annuals in zones 3-9 or you can lift and clean the tubers and put them in distilled water in a jar that you store in a cool, dry place.
Myriophyllum Species-zones 4-11-milfoil is a delicate looking plant and a great filter-grows up to 3 ft and draws nutrients from the water-helps keep algae down and provides protection and oxygen for your fish.
Eichhornia Crassipes- zones 10-11, water hyacinth has glossy, rounded leaves that grow in an upward-turned rosett eith pale lavender blossoms. This plant will not bloom without ample sunlight. Water hyacinth are great for shading small ponds, eating nutrients that algae would otherwise feed on and the fish love to nibble on the roots.
